One of Vancouver's best and most happy companies, Native offers a wide range of colourful shoes based on iconic silhouettes but made out of a super light-weight PVC foam. Their latest and greatest range of footwear, due out in AW '12, has recently been making it's way around the world by way of various trade shows and show rooms. To our pleasant surprise, the Gastown F.C. collaboration with Reigning Champ was front and center to help show off a brand new Native style; the Hugo. Following the lead of Hamit & Halil, Rafael & Fabio and Ronald & Frank, Native opted to have a set of twins model the new style, both kitted out in Gastown F.C. x Reigning Champ. The shoes will go on sale in September-ish and there are still a few sweats available.

A little while back, Peter Sutherland headlined a great issue of Arkitip that focused on football and his involvement with CSC. A friend of mine got it and I remembered admiring the work of Keith Shore while flipping through it. I recently rediscovered his work and found about what I can only assume is his love for the game as it's the subject of a handful of his paintings and sketches. I'm a big fan of his loose, easy style and the great use of colour. Check out more of his football based work below.

According to the Premier League, Chelsea have followed the lead of Manchester United and lured a diminutive 38 year old out of retirement — former Derby and Wolves man Dean Sturridge. Little Dean "save(d) Chelsea's FA Cup blushes with a 62nd minute leveller" when he rose highest to nod home a corner. While that didn't actually happen (Dean's nephew Daniel scored the equalizer to force a replay) what better time than now to remind you of another forgotten footballer who once had it, anyone remember this gem when he shrugged off Tony Adams and smash home at Highbury? Just stumbled on this great clip of 69 year old Francisco López who after a long career in the sport is still refereeing Sunday league games in Spain. It's a nice little feel good story about a man who's dedicated his life to the game he loves, I just wish there was more actual video.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.gastownfc.com/home/vmsl-division-2-cup-match-28-gastown-fc-vs-pcov-europa.html"><rss:title>VMSL DIVISION 2 CUP- Match 28: Gastown F.C. vs PCOV EUROPA</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.gastownfc.com/home/vmsl-division-2-cup-match-28-gastown-fc-vs-pcov-europa.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Gastown FC News</dc:subject>

Friday night pits Div 3B underdogs Gastown F.C. against the storied 13th Legion F.C. Gastown earned their place in the round of 32 matchup by way of a hard fought win* against PCOV Europa which needed extra time to be decided. Silvio Ruprah notched the winner in that game and will look to repeat his feat looking to continue his scoring run. 13th Legion, playing for the first time in two weeks, had a first round bye and are looking to improve on their last performance a 2-2 draw against rivals FC Romania. Having both finished their seasons languishing in mid-table mediocracy, each team will be looking for cup success which should make for a good open game.

There are not many things in life that bring you greater joy than watching your favourite player do something extraordinary. Our recent collaboration with top-quality fleece dynamos Reigning Champ garnered some pretty good attention from around the internet. International trendsetters Hypebeast did a little story on it a couple of months ago, and now it has made it's way across the pond for some editorial coverage. In a first foray onto the printed page, the simple, well made sweats popped up in a photo story by the very talented photographer/stylist duo Neil Bedford and Stephen Mann. A partnership as productive as Sutton and Shearer, the pair produced a fantastic editorial about a goalkeeper and his coach.

See the gear featured in the photo from the spread below, and be sure to check out the whole story in the latest issue of The Green Soccer Journal. It's available in our webshop along with the full Reigning Champ for Gastown F.C. line.

Just above the kidneys, the adrenal glands were leaking that familiar magical chemical. Big majestic butterflies were taking flight within the stomaches of all in attendance. The mystique of cup competition was back. Relative minnows Gastown F.C. welcomed Burnaby based division 2A big shots PCOV Europa to cool and unforgiving Andy Livingstone park for a match that played out much the same way.

After the trials and tribulations of the last few months Gastown F.C. returns to action this evening in the first match of VMSL's Division 2 cup. Having lost key members of the side to Japan, injury and employment, the team looks to finish the season on a high note and going on a decent cup run. Up first is PCOV Europa who are currently dwindling in basement of division 2A, a full 4 divisions above fledgling VMSL side Gastown F.C. Having won a league and cup double last summer in another league, G.F.C. will hope that their experience will come of use.

The times are a-changin' Bob Dylan once sang. He wasn't talking about the Vancouver Metro Soccer Leagues 3rd division but who knows, maybe he was ahead of his time when it came to relevant football as well — because the time's have certainly changed for Gastown's finest football club.

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
